Clinical Education Assignments

Clinical education assignments are coordinated by the clinical education faculty team. Allclinicalsites must meet certain criteria and enter a written contractual agreement with Ithaca College. Our clinical education faculty team conducts a review of the facility to ensure that a quality educational experience can be delivered before offering a contract. The review procedure may take up to a year from the time the initial contact is made with the clinic until the contract is signed. We are pleased topartnerwith approximately 1,000 sites across the country, from large urban hospitals to small rural practices, and believe that each site offers a unique learning opportunity for our students. Due to the diversity requirements and the number of offerings in any given year, we cannot guarantee that students will be placed in a clinical facility near their home, however, efforts will be made to ensure clinical placements are geographically accessible to the student.

Student placements are determined by the DCE or ADCE in collaboration with each student. Information about each clinical facility is available to students for their consideration when providing their preferences. It is essential that communication with our clinical education sites be coordinated by our DCE or ADCE; therefore, students and family members arenotallowed to contact current or potential facilities prior to a clinical assignment. Once a clinical assignment ismade, students are then required to initiate communication. Changes arenotallowed unless an emergency arises; any change must be processed by the DCE or ADCE.

Position Statement

In support of the position of the American Physical Therapy Association, as of January 2007, the Ithaca College Department of Physical Therapy will not participate in clinical education with practice settings that identify themselves as physician owned physical therapy services (POPTS).
